Getting Started with Ziptionary

The following are a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of Ziptionary.  Please take the 2 minutes needed to review them!

Right Clicking on a Word or Phrase

The most common way to use Ziptionary is to right-click on a word.  In this case, we've right clicked on "botulism", and then from the popup menu selected "Search Web".

You can also select a phrase (i.e.we could have selected "Minneapolis Bridge" before right clicking, and that would be our search phrase).

Your Search Results Appear

After we selected the "Search Web" option, the Google Web Search for results for "Botulism" appear.

Repeating Your Search at Other Search Engines

If you don't see a result you like, you can click on the alternate search engines in the Ziptionary bar (the bar on the left).  Here you'll find links to other search engines such as Yahoo, Ask.com, and Microsoft's Live.com search.  Click on any them, and you'll see the results from that search engine.  No need to retype anything, just click away!

Searching Wikipedia's Encyclopedia

There are two ways to get Wikipedia search results for a word or phrase:

Searching for Images and More...

After you right-click a word, in addition to the standard "Search Web" and "Search Encyclopedia" commands you'll also find an "Advanced Search" menu.  Under that menu you'll find a number of other searches, such as Images, Maps, Patents, and so on.  These searches are also available from within the Ziptionary search box.

As an example, let's select the words "Labrador Retriever", right-click it, then pick "Search Images" from the menu:

The Ziptionary window will appear and you're automatically taken to the Google Images search results:
